We stumbled across this beauty from her blog, Balanced Life Aloha while stalking Instagram (something we’re very good at 😉 and we have been following her every since! This is your honest, no fuss, and true beauty kind of lifestyle blogger. While touching on topics like her travels, spirituality, and her natural approach to life through food and remedies we find that her down to earth attitude not only inspires us, but remind us sisters to live a “balanced life” and to honesty love what we do.
This hot mama (yes, she’s a mom!) is quickly making a name for herself by writing about beauty, food, health, spirituality, style and travel. All things we love and us gals need a healthy dose of in our lives. She’s great at opening up about her marriage, what it’s like being a mom and her recent honesty on the blog about how she is dealing with a miscarriage. It’s this honesty and beauty that keep us coming back and we are honored today to share with you, our current crush, Heather Restrepo!
What inspires you? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I feel the most inspiration just from possessing the freedom to be able to pursue my wildest dreams. Of course we all have inspirational outlets that we can draw from when we need a little pick-me-up or a refresh, but I believe that such outlets (whether it be magazines, blogs, celebs, etc.) shouldn’t necessarily be copied, but rather used to produce our own interpreted creation (whether it be clothes, writing, music, or design). Whatever it is, all forms of outside inspiration should push us to become even more of ourselves! On a lighter note, in terms of design, I radiate towards alternative and worldly lifestyles – I love all things Marrakech, Grecian, and especially Indo-Pacific.
In a few sentences how would you describe your style?
My style is definitively very eclectic. In terms of clothes, some days I’ll channel my inner Bohemian, but then there are others where I’m all about the comfy & casual-chic pieces of my wardrobe (like oversized knit sweaters). My style seemingly evolves with time and experiences.
What does a good lifestyle mean to you?
A good lifestyle is one that allows you to wake up every morning excited for the day. It incorporates real foods to nourish our bodies and give us the energy that we need to pursue our dreams, but it also is about living with a balance that allows for indulgences, adventures, and passionate love.
When and how did you first find your passion for “balanced life aloha”?
It wasn’t until my body literally turned on itself (being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition) that I realized my true purpose. My condition had left me with no energy, and as a new mother I had to make a promise to myself that I would find a better way to deal with it. My daughter was my ultimate motivation, since I didn’t want her to grow up witnessing my lethargy from being sick. Long story short, I created this code to living a vibrant life, called it “balanced life aloha”, and since then I have actually started to reverse my condition and have been thriving while also helping others!
What do you love most about your career/passion?
I’ve been developing the more professional side of Balanced Life Aloha for over a year now, but as I just officially launched my website, I am loving having so many opportunities to branch out and keep evolving this platform I’ve created. The most rewarding aspect though is getting feedback from followers/readers that they receive inspiration from what I am doing.
Currently what is your must have product, that you can’t live without?
Oh my gosh, a Konjac Facial Sponge for sure! I actually wrote an entire article about them on my website that just confesses my love. It is an all-natural sponge derived from veggie fibers, is so efficient at exfoliating, yet super gentle on the skin.
How do you typically start your day?
I start my day with either a cold shower or splash of cold water on my face, to wake me up as well as fight inflammation. After brushing my teeth, I always drink a full glass of water as well to kick-start my metabolism and flush toxins from sleeping. That is, of course, followed by snuggles from my sleepy toddler and then off to the kitchen where she and I make breakfast (she’s more of a taste-tester) with some type of relaxing music on in the background.
How do you typically end your day?
This varies by day, but my ideal way to end a day is in a detox bath with lavender essential oil to de-stress, and a good book to read while I soak. That would then be followed by cuddling with my hubby, and watching Netflix together in bed before dosing off.
What do you love most about the city you live in?
As a family, we move a lot (like 7 times in the past 3 years) because of my husband’s career. This allows us to appreciate new found treasures in each city. We haven’t been in our current city too long yet, so stay-tuned for that!
Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
This is probably impossible for me to answer. However, anywhere with an ocean or body of water is music to my soul.
What was the best piece of advice given to you when you were first getting started?
Probably my husband saying to always stay true to myself, and telling me that there is no pressure on anything I am doing, so just have fun!
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever given someone?
Definitely to travel, and at least travel alone once as a young adult. Experiencing alternative lifestyles really have a unique ability to transform a person and allow gratitude to grow within.
What is your astrological sign?
I am a true Cancer. Feminine, loving, dedicated, and spiritual – yet sometimes a bit emotional!
What are you most proud of?
Leaving home at 17 years old to live basically half way across the world from anyone I knew, and accomplishing all the goals I set out to achieve, which includes where I am at now in life.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on filming YouTube videos for my exclusive “Heather BalancedLifeAloha” channel!
What’s next for you? What’s your future looking like?
I am just going to enjoy that I have launched BalancedLifeAloha.com, and whatever the future holds I am open to and excited about!
Good design is…
Vibrant, yet comforting and well balanced; a true expression without needing words.

This bathroom makeover was a fun experience because the bathroom was gutted completely and we started from scratch. When a designer gets to do this it becomes a dream job for us because we get a blank canvas to work with. Therefore, the possibilities are endless and our minds begin to twirl in a tivey of creativity and fabulousness. This is a great feeling, trust us! When a blank canvas is presented, beautiful things happen and that’s exactly what took place.
We ripped out the glass shower and tiled in square tub which always finds their way into the cookie cutter model homes. This was a custom job and that was the first element that had to go! Then the typical vanity was torn out. After that, the obvious had to go like the tile and all the heavy bronze fixtures.
We were inspired by a free standing tub but knew it had to also function as a shower, so we blended the two concepts and found this deep (perfect for bathing their children) skirted free standing tub and plumbed it with a classic 1900s inspired tub filler and shower head. Once this was settled our inspiration came to life. Classic 1900s meets the modern day family.
So, the marriage of the two concepts began to grow and the rest fell into place. Like providing a simple, but modern vanity paired with a set of classic faucet fixtures. As for the walls, we tiled a wainscot of the classic handmade old world subway tiles and added the old idea of a barn door, but with a modern and smooth walnut finish. We framed the mirrors in the same wood as the barn door. This really warmed up the space in our eyes.
We used classic 1900s style medicine cabinets and light fixtures which again give it that classic look which will never go out of style. When styling we brought in some rustic elements (because let’s face it, us sisters have a hard time not using a rustic element or two!) with the wooden ladder to house the towels and some hand woven baskets for dirty towels and storage. We also used some polished nickel handmade bath accessories at the sink, which is our personal favorite! Not to mention the old world bath mat/area rug. Eeek!
The client was thrilled to have a new white, clean and happy place to start and end their day. Another successful project and happy client! Now, does anyone else want to soak in the tub with a good book and a glass of wine?
No matter the size of the stripe, whether it’s traditional or unconventional, the stripe will always draw your eye. It’s the most powerful yet neutral and easy pattern to work with. A bold and strong stripe is best when used in smaller spaces or where folks won’t be lingering; like the foyer, hallway or powder room. When using them on furniture or with your accessories like pillows the fool-proof method is mixing them with a floral and a solid. It will never fail you!
Stripes are the most classic, never-ending trend out there! They have been around since the beginning of time and will never go out of style. When in doubt, use a stripe! It will be the biggest and boldest statement in your space. Trust us on this one! We pulled together our favorite uses of the stripe. Tell us what you think!
We’re huge fans of the classic, chic vibe that black and white creates. It’s one of the true bonds between two colors, a love that never dies. Here are a few tips for pulling it off right.
1) This color combo works fabulously with all other colors and patterns. So, don’t be afraid to mix it up. Keep in mind that when you bring in the black and white, everything else will pop.
2) Go big and decide whether you want to throw it on the floor, the walls or the ceiling. A black and white floor, wall or ceiling is a great way to make a big statement. Our all time favorite kitchen we ever had was one with the classic black and white checkered floor. We’ll never forget that kitchen. In fact, we spent most of our time while living there in the kitchen, ha!
3) Decide on a pattern for the black and white. You can do checkered floors, an ornate ethnic pattern, walls with polka dots, ceilings with stripes and upholstery with all of the above. In other words, the options are endless and hard to get wrong.
4) Using black and white is a great way to marry the old with the new. If you have a lot of old or vintage items and you’re living in an architecturally modern space with lots of clean lines, then black and white becomes the glue that makes it all work and look amazing.
5) Don’t be afraid to layer a black and white pattern with ethnic and more colorful patterns. It always looks fresh and smart. On the contrary, sticking to a pure black and white look is never boring. Decide what suits you and just go for it!
