Clearly our love of Blush hasn’t faded! It just feels right, paired with white or black you really can’t go wrong. We love this huge statement centerpiece using greenery from your backyard. Earthly textiles and buttery leather with a dark statement wall? Yes please, and a nice break from “all white errythang” too. This staircase + that brick wall = chic, rustic, and modern. These tiles are giving us major heart eyes. We’d take a whole shelf of these ceramic beauties, and bonus is that they’d look amazing on an open shelf in the kitchen! Last, this cactus would look fabulous in an entry way.

Happy pinning, friends!

We are huge fans of decorating with lush, green plants inside! They instantly add dimension and life to your space, making them a great choice for a quick update. House plants tend to be low maintenance, so don’t worry if your thumb isn’t that green. Not only do plants add color to a neutral palette, but they also act as air purifiers– a total win. Below you will find our top five plants that we use in and around our own homes!

Succulents + Cacti //

Succulents are great for all lighting environments and actually appreciate the neglect we tend to give… which is great if you want to start incorporating green into your home but not sure if you can keep your new plant babies alive!

Snake Plant //

Snake Plants, or Mother in Law Tongues, have a modern vibe and also do extremely well with loving neglect! These plants can adapt to most light and are really fun to watch grow. They look great in just about any room, especially when put in a bullet planter like you see above.

Fiddle Leaf Fig //

Fiddle Leafs are the most popular indoor plant right now… they are everywhere!. They are just so stunning, but with that comes high maintenance. Fiddles need a lot of bright, indirect light and love (aka don’t neglect like our other choices. Make your Fiddle your Number 1!).

Rubber Tree //

We love the smoother, dark leaves on these little guys. They are called Rubber Trees but when kept trimmed down they stay as cute little bushes. They do best in indirect light with occasional watering.

Hang It Up //

Hanging your favorite plants give a greenhouse vibe inside your home. We love grouping together different color succulents! Just make sure there are drainage holes on the bottom of your planters so that the soil doesn’t get too soaked and cause root rot.

Our favorite places to find plants is our local nursery, trader joe’s, and IKEA! Home Depot and Lowe’s also has great plants and has seasonal plant sales! Get to shoppin’ and air purifyin’!

I know my sister Elaina isn’t the biggest fan of Valentines, and I get where she is coming from. It can be cheesy, forced and if you have no one to share it with, it can be the most depressing day of the year… Especially at our age. I mean, who are we kidding. Holla to all my single gal friends out there!

I have been blessed when it comes to Valentines day because eight years ago when I met Tyler, we accidentally fell into our tradition on Valentines day. Because of our tradition, I have grown to LOVE this holiday and in fact, look forward to it every year! We keep it simple and glutinous, no gifts exchanged! All we do is drive thru IN & OUT and order our favorite menu items (mine being a #2 animal style, protein style with well done french fries and a root beer). Then we head home to eat it on our sofa, in our pj’s and we rent a movie on Apple TV. Best day of the year by far! Now, I know we mentioned no gifts. I am okay with this, though some of you may not be. In the case you need some help in directing your men to some idea…Here are my top 3 gift ideas:

I love Anna Beck’s jewelry and I have been eyeing this simple but beautiful necklace. This is an everyday piece which us girls are always looking for. Something that will go with everything and we can keep on all year-long, no matter the occasion.

Now, I’m obsessed with my BKR bottles. I think every women needs one. The gift of hydration in style!

Lastly, I stumbled across this gal on Instagram, of course!!!! I have been eyeing one of her extremely large knit pieces for days now!!! How amazing does this blanket look? Cuddled up on the sofa with my In & Out!!!  Hmmm…maybe we WILL exchange gifts this year. Plus her styling is on point.

XO, Susanna

Founded by twin sisters Amie Calico and Ali Lindgren, the small studio offers high-end eyelash extension services using only the highest quality materials and the safest methods, they help you to feel beautiful and fresh with less hassle.

Here’s a little photo diary of my amazing visit with Scottie, pictured above and amazing lash artist. We are so grateful for the opportunity to share our experiences of this cool salon!

We fell in love with Ciao Bella because of their amazing lash results (obviously!), cute decor, and the warmth that fills the place thanks to their lash artists. They also incorporate family and community with events and outreach, which we love. The vibes of the modern, bohemian decor gave us major heart eyes and was icing on the cake to our wonderful experience.

Holiday Gift Guide

December 13, 2015

holidays.2015Oh, the holidays! One of the few times a year where asking, or hoping, for gifts is totally acceptable. We rounded up a few of what we’re hoping is under the tree!

Susanna // 1. For our rocker chicks…I’m currently eyeing these bad gals! Obsessed and think every girl needs a shiny pair of ankle boots! 2. For our big spender, I stumbled across these jewelers on Instagram and have been stalking them daily! This ring is the best way to tell some one you love and appreciate them. 3. For the women on the go, like us Sisters, this tote will help keep your things organized! Now, if only it would keep my thoughts organized! 4.We all need power at times, right?? How adorable is this Iphone Charger! A great stocking stuffer or gift for your gal pals! 5. I just got myself a new laptop and you better believe this guy is on my list this year! Drooling!

Elaina // 6. I can’t always get what I want here in Bali. Sometimes it requires a plane ride or hitting up someone’s luggage space who is flying in. I’m running low on my signature scent and feeling anxious about it as wearing perfume is what I do everyday no matter what. This is my scent. Been moving through Fresh scents since I was in my early 20s. I seem to change every 5-7 years. I think this one may last a bit longer. 7. I’m a huge fan of Jai Vasicek over at Ahoy Trader and his tiles make for great gifts that can fill that small little spot on the wall that needs that little something. 8. I’m a sucker for good candles. I have a sensitive sense of smell (say that ten times fast) and so when it’s a good one, it can set the mood for everything. Not only do I know the beautiful soul behind this magic but I’ve tried and tested the product and it is oh so good. I’ll have one of everything please. 9. This time of year I really start to miss home and the crisp cold air. I dream about being cold and missing my boots and sweaters. I’m obsessing over this little number soon to be on sale with my girls over at Sea and Wander. Kinda funny I dream about being cold so I can wear warm clothes to feel warmer as I sit here dripping in my own sweat from the tropical heat that is Bali right now… Doesn’t make sense! 10. I’ve always been a bit obsessed with coffee table books and I think they make for great gifts. I started following Humans of New York a while back on instagram and love all the amazing stories. A good coffee table book will interest your guests and make for some great conversation. This one is on my list for sure!

Happy shopping!! XOXO

Fall Favorites

November 8, 2015

With the seasons changing, it’s easy to also want to change or add items in and around your life to accommodate the weather, or influx of parties the holidays bring! Elaina, in Bali, won’t be experiencing cooler temperatures but she will be experiencing a ton of rain. Tropic downpours are no joke. Susanna may get hit with El Nino in San Diego, but it’s a lot easier to make a cozy home than force cooler weather– And because it’s fun to do, we’ve compiled a few items that are on our wish-list. SistersFallFavs

Left to right, top to bottom: Elaina // My go to for that tropical look, Cha Cha Tint. Rain wellies to deal with the flooding that occurs here in Bali, Chooka. For our weekend beach adventures, The Beach People. Lusting after these fab beach umbrellas. Bali is it’s hottest during rainy season, Basil Bangs. Loving these playful dessert or picnic plates that can be used to add a bit of whimsical to your holidays and make eating more fun for the little ones, Anthropologie. Susanna // Gold Cutlery Set  perf for the holidays and all that eating, Shoppe by Amber Interiors. This is the best fall jacket! It will become a staple for the next few months.  (once it cools down!) The perfect blend of rocker chic and boho, Cleobella. My fave nail color of the season. Love the true oxblood that the Burberry has put out! Color #303, Nordstrom. My go to scent of the fall is the Baltic Amber candles by Voluspa. Takes me home every time, Voluspa. This chandelier, totally drool worthy! In love and think all dining tables this fall need to meet this handsome fella, Anthropologie.

Current Crush: Heather Restrepo of Balanced Life Aloha

August 24, 2015

We stumbled across this beauty from her blog, Balanced Life Aloha while stalking Instagram (something we’re very good at 😉 and we have been following her every since! This is your honest, no fuss, and true beauty kind of lifestyle blogger. While touching on topics like her travels, spirituality, and her natural approach to life through food and remedies we find that her down to earth attitude not only inspires us, but remind us sisters to live a “balanced life” and to honesty love what we do.
This hot mama (yes, she’s a mom!) is quickly making a name for herself by writing about beauty, food, health, spirituality, style and travel. All things we love and us gals need a healthy dose of in our lives. She’s great at opening up about her marriage, what it’s like being a mom and her recent honesty on the blog about how she is dealing with a miscarriage. It’s this honesty and beauty that keep us coming back and we are honored today to share with you, our current crush, Heather Restrepo!
What inspires you? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I feel the most inspiration just from possessing the freedom to be able to pursue my wildest dreams.  Of course we all have inspirational outlets that we can draw from when we need a little pick-me-up or a refresh, but I believe that such outlets (whether it be magazines, blogs, celebs, etc.) shouldn’t necessarily be copied, but rather used to produce our own interpreted creation (whether it be clothes, writing, music, or design). Whatever it is, all forms of outside inspiration should push us to become even more of ourselves! On a lighter note, in terms of design, I radiate towards alternative and worldly lifestyles – I love all things Marrakech, Grecian, and especially Indo-Pacific.
In a few sentences how would you describe your style?
My style is definitively very eclectic. In terms of clothes, some days I’ll channel my inner Bohemian, but then there are others where I’m all about the comfy & casual-chic pieces of my wardrobe (like oversized knit sweaters). My style seemingly evolves with time and experiences.
What does a good lifestyle mean to you?
A good lifestyle is one that allows you to wake up every morning excited for the day. It incorporates real foods to nourish our bodies and give us the energy that we need to pursue our dreams, but it also is about living with a balance that allows for indulgences, adventures, and passionate love.
When and how did you first find your passion for “balanced life aloha”?
It wasn’t until my body literally turned on itself (being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition) that I realized my true purpose. My condition had left me with no energy, and as a new mother I had to make a promise to myself that I would find a better way to deal with it. My daughter was my ultimate motivation, since I didn’t want her to grow up witnessing my lethargy from being sick. Long story short, I created this code to living a vibrant life, called it “balanced life aloha”, and since then I have actually started to reverse my condition and have been thriving while also helping others!
What do you love most about your career/passion?
I’ve been developing the more professional side of Balanced Life Aloha for over a year now, but as I just officially launched my website, I am loving having so many opportunities to branch out and keep evolving this platform I’ve created.   The most rewarding aspect though is getting feedback from followers/readers that they receive inspiration from what I am doing.
Currently what is your must have product, that you can’t live without?
Oh my gosh, a Konjac Facial Sponge for sure! I actually wrote an entire article about them on my website that just confesses my love.  It is an all-natural sponge derived from veggie fibers, is so efficient at exfoliating, yet super gentle on the skin.
How do you typically start your day?
I start my day with either a cold shower or splash of cold water on my face, to wake me up as well as fight inflammation. After brushing my teeth, I always drink a full glass of water as well to kick-start my metabolism and flush toxins from sleeping. That is, of course,  followed by snuggles from my sleepy toddler and then off to the kitchen where she and I make breakfast (she’s more of a taste-tester) with some type of relaxing music on in the background.
How do you typically end your day?
This varies by day, but my ideal way to end a day is in a detox bath with lavender essential oil to de-stress, and a good book to read while I soak.  That would then be followed by cuddling with my hubby, and watching Netflix together in bed before dosing off.
What do you love most about the city you live in?
As a family, we move a lot (like 7 times in the past 3 years) because of my husband’s career. This allows us to appreciate new found treasures in each city.  We haven’t been in our current city too long yet, so stay-tuned for that!
Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
This is probably impossible for me to answer.  However, anywhere with an ocean or body of water is music to my soul.
What was the best piece of advice given to you when you were first getting started?
Probably my husband saying to always stay true to myself, and telling me that there is no pressure on anything I am doing, so just have fun!
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever given someone?
Definitely to travel, and at least travel alone once as a young adult.  Experiencing alternative lifestyles really have a unique ability to transform a person and allow gratitude to grow within.
What is your astrological sign?
I am a true Cancer.  Feminine, loving, dedicated, and spiritual – yet sometimes a bit emotional!
What are you most proud of?
Leaving home at 17 years old to live basically half way across the world from anyone I knew, and accomplishing all the goals I set out to achieve, which includes where I am at now in life.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on filming YouTube videos for my exclusive “Heather BalancedLifeAloha” channel!
What’s next for you? What’s your future looking like?
I am just going to enjoy that I have launched, and whatever the future holds I am open to and excited about!
Good design is…
Vibrant, yet comforting and well balanced; a true expression without needing words.
